Anatomy / Physiology
What is Anatomy?
Anatomy is a branch of science concerned with the different structure of the human, animal, and other living things. Anatomy is also concerned with naming the various systems within the bodies of living organisms. How these systems work to function and what they do relative to the body is a major focus. This field of science also focuses on how the different body systems interact with each other, how the muscular system interacts with the skeletal structure is an example of cross-system interactions.
What is Physiology?
Physiology is one of the many branches of science, it is focused on studying how living organisms function, as well as their parts. Some many focuses of physiology are how organs function, cells of organisms, bio-molecules, organ systems, and correlations between these topics.
The Course
Throughout the duration of this course we will focus on the different systems of the human body (as defined by NGSS):
Cardiovascular system
Muscular system
Nervous System
Digestive System
Immune system
Endocrine System
Skeletal System
Exocrine System
Reproductive System
Respiratory System
For each system we will be drawing many models and diagrams to help us better understand how each system functions.
Once we have understood the basics of each system we will then dive into how the different systems affect each other, in positive and negative ways.
Labs/ Modeling:
Respiratory System:
Plastic bottles, balloons, and rubber bands
Skeletal System:
Toothpicks to model bones in limbs
Dive deeper by using rubber bands/ string to represent the muscular system, interaction between 2 systems
Resources necessary for the course:
Rubber bands
Plastic bottle(s)
Balloons
Toothpicks
Scissors
Notebook and pencil
Have fun making the models while still learning!
